Innovative niche travel: hobbies provide perfect travel inspiration

Hotelplan SuisseJanuary 14, 2025

Hotelplan Suisse has responded to growing demand for adventure travel with a novel personalised service: employees at its 82 branches are developing group trips inspired by their own passions. This approach combines their interests with entrepreneurial creativity to produce unique travel experiences. This enables participants to benefit from expert advice and experience their passion in the company of like-minded people.

Aside from classic long-haul destinations, more and more people in Switzerland are interested in unconventional travel experiences based on their hobbies and leisure activities. Hotelplan Suisse has responded to this demand by providing a range of innovative niche holidays developed with great passion by the employees at its 82 branches throughout Switzerland.

Expertise and individual tour guides all in one
These group tours are based on the personal passions of staff at Hotelplan Suisse branches. That's because the trips are developed by employees themselves, reflecting their personal interests and opening up new, unique travel experiences for like-minded people – from iconic card collection trips to Japan, and women-only motorbike tours to shopping trips with styling advice in New York.

Hotelplan's branch employees are not only the creative minds behind the trips, but also accompany travellers on their journey. Customers going on these group tours benefit from the expertise of experienced tour guides and enjoy the usual high level of Hotelplan service. Hotelplan Suisse takes care of all organisational details so that participants can fully enjoy their experience and the company of the group.

Entrepreneurial creativity combined with passion
By developing and organising these niche tours, Hotelplan Suisse is consolidating its position as a provider of personalised holiday experiences that meet individual customer requirements. This also gives branch employees the opportunity to combine their passions with entrepreneurial creativity, engage in their personal interests and create new, innovative travel experiences as entrepreneurs. The destinations and trip itineraries are selected based on the expertise, interests and networks of Hotelplan's travel experts, who specifically select destinations and activities that they find particularly inspiring and enriching.

Commenting on the group trips, Louis Müller, Co-Lead Director Distribution Hotelplan Suisse, says: "By focussing on the personal passions of our employees, we're offering our customers unforgettable experiences where like-minded people can come together and share their common interests."

Travelling connects people: some of the group trips in 2025

Motorbike tour of Sardinia: accompanied women-only group trip
30.8.-8.9.2025

This trip is perfect for women who share a passion for motorcycling: ten days and nine nights of adventure, freedom and togetherness on two wheels. The journey begins in Visp in the canton of Valais. After a stopover in Genoa, the ferry will take participants to the magnificent island of Sardinia. The itinerary includes daily motorbike tours of about 200km to explore the highlights of Sardinia. The participants will decide which sights and landscapes to visit, depending on their preferences, from vibrant markets and historical sites to secluded bays. However, they will also have an opportunity to create their own individual programme and spend a relaxing day by the pool, for example. The programme features breakfasts and dinners together to reflect on the day. Within the group, each participant will be free to organise her holiday as she wishes, while enjoying the beauty of the island in the company of like-minded women.

Bianca Hanslik, sales advisor at the Hotelplan branch in Visp and the organiser of the motorbike trip, explains what inspired her: "Through this trip, I wanted to give women a chance to step out of their comfort zone, grow and make new friends. I'm looking forward to an adventure that will provide great company and unforgettable experiences - by women for women."

CardCollectors: hunting for rare trading cards
28.5.-8.6.2025

A special trip to Japan organised in conjunction with CardCollectors promises ten days of adventure and is ideal for trading-card fans and lovers of Japanese pop culture. The group will explore the cultural and creative hotspots of Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo together. It will also focus on discovering local trading-card shops, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. This unique Japanese adventure will be complemented by delicious culinary dishes, cultural highlights and epic moments that will undoubtedly make every collector's heart beat faster. The trip will be led by Pascal Landolt, one of the co-founders of CardCollectors, the specialist for trading cards in Switzerland. With his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for trading cards, he will make this trip a unique experience for up to 16 participants. Together they will share their passion for collecting and vibrant Japanese pop culture in an inspirational atmosphere as a group.

Pascal Landolt reveals what anime and Japan fans can expect:
"What better way to round off a successful day's trading-card shopping than with a tasty portion of ramen noodles in a cosy 'izakaya' restaurant? This trip was designed to give both Japan newbies and experienced card otakus a sense of full immersion into the Japanese way of life."
