Interhome Group highlights sustainable holiday accommodation

Visitors to the Interhome Group websites can now search specifically for sustainable accommodation. The Swiss holiday home provider is thus responding to the growing demand for sustainable holiday homes and apartments.

The demand for sustainable holidays has gained momentum in recent years. A survey conducted last year by the University of Freiburg for Interhome Group has shown that more and more guests are prioritising sustainable holiday accommodation. In response to this development, the Swiss holiday home provider's portfolio can now be filtered by sustainable holiday home and apartment options. "We care about sustainability. This is why we have performed corresponding checks on all holiday homes and apartments and labelled those that meet our sustainability criteria with our own icon, a green tree," says Interhome Group Co-CEO Jörg Herrmann.

Holiday properties rated as 'sustainable accommodation' meet at least seven of the total twelve sustainability criteria that Interhome Group considers particularly important when it comes to protecting the environment. Among others, the criteria include environmentally friendly heating, green electricity, solar panels or a photovoltaic system, charging points for electric vehicles, water-saving toilets and showers, recycling options, LED lighting and double-glazed windows, proximity to public transport. The most important criteria met by each holiday apartment or home are listed in the description of the accommodation.

Investing in sustainability endeavours
Interhome Group aims to become the most sustainable provider of holiday accommodation in Europe. With this in mind, the holiday home provider supports its property owners in taking structural measures to improve sustainability – for instance by installing a photovoltaic system or a charging point for electric vehicles. "Sustainable accommodation is becoming increasingly important and bookings for sustainable accommodation will in future outstrip those for holiday homes and apartments that do not focus on sustainability. So it benefits both the property owners and us as a company to invest in sustainability activities," says Jörg Herrmann.
