Interhome Group's new home owner guarantee comes into effect on 1 July 2022. This means that owners of holiday homes are now also protected against cancellations due to force majeure events and will be reimbursed the cancellation fees.

Starting from 1 July 2022, owners of holiday homes will benefit from Interhome Group's new home owner guarantee in partnership with the Europäische Reiseversicherung ERV when renting out their accommodation through Interhome or Interchalet. The home owner guarantee covers holiday home owners if Interhome Group has to cancel bookings as a result of a sudden, unexpected event because the customer cannot reasonably be expected to stay at or travel to the destination. Until now, such major events were deemed to be force majeure and, as a result, property owners received no compensation. Under the new policy, holiday home owners will be refunded 75 percent of the planned cancellation fees if a booking is cancelled by Interhome Group. The home owner guarantee is automatically integrated into all new bookings from 1 July 2022 onwards.

The home owner guarantee comes into effect if travelling to or staying in the accommodation is considered unreasonable due to the following: natural disasters and extreme weather events, severe storms, gross water pollution, lack of drinking water, inaccessibility of the travel area, civil unrest and terrorist attacks as well as epidemics. Past events that would be covered by the new guarantee include, for instance, the heavy snowfall in Zermatt that cut the resort off from its surroundings in 2018 or the volcanic eruption on La Palma in 2021.

"In the past, home owners did not have sufficient protection against such unforeseeable circumstances. We are delighted to be able to offer our holiday home owners the additional insurance cover and better protection against cancellations. This makes working with Interhome Group even more attractive," says Jörg Herrmann, CEO Interhome Group.
