Successful financial year 2024: Hotelplan Group increases revenue further

Hotelplan GroupJanuary 29, 2025

With revenue of CHF 1,781.8 million in the financial year 2023/2024, Hotelplan Group once again exceeded the previous year's figure. Despite challenging underlying conditions—from multiple geopolitical uncertainties to the ongoing sale process – the travel group remains on course for growth.

With revenue of CHF 1,781.8 million in the financial year 2023/2024 (from 1 November 2023 to 31 October 2024), Hotelplan Group once again exceeded the figure recorded in the previous year. "For the third time in a row, Hotelplan Group has achieved record revenue – despite geopolitical uncertainties at key destinations and the sale process. We owe this outstanding performance to our employees, who have shown a great deal of passion and commitment once again to create unforgettable travel experiences for our customers in this challenging year," explains Laura Meyer, CEO of Hotelplan Group.

The business units at a glance
Despite the high profile of the sale process in the Swiss media, Hotelplan Suisse successfully built on the previous year's success in 2024 and generated revenue of CHF 224.8 million (previous year: CHF 227.7 million). The increased demand for customised individual trips with the specialist brands travelhouse and tourisme pour tous was supported by the targeted expansion of the adventure travel offering.

Trips with the Hotelplan, Migros Ferien and vtours brands enjoyed great popularity. The vtours brand in particular, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, recorded strong growth. A certain degree of restraint emerged in the lower price segment and among families in Switzerland due to the increased cost of living. Altogether, Volume Tour Operating outperformed the previous year and generated revenue of CHF 914.6 million (previous year: CHF 857.6 million).

Hotelplan UK closed the financial year 2023/2024 with revenue totalling GBP 211.7 million , which was on par with the successful previous year (GBP 212.4 million). This strong result was mainly driven by successful internationalisation: Hotelplan UK opened new offices in Brisbane and Toronto to meet the growing demand for adventure travel in Australasia and North America. The teams offer both Explore adventure tours in small groups and customised hiking tours from Inntravel, with both international locations exceeding their annual revenue targets.

Holiday home specialist Interhome maintained its record level over the past financial year, generating revenue of CHF 389.6 million(previous year: CHF 389.7 million). Investments in digital solutions, the introduction of a single-brand strategy and the expansion of the local service network further improved the customer experience for holiday home owners and guests. At the same time, the partner network was strengthened and growth was recorded in the direct channels.

Business travel specialists bta first travel and Finass Reisen generated total revenue of CHF 15.7 million in the financial year 2023/2024 (previous year: CHF 17.0 million). The slight decline is due to the sale process. Both brands remain very well positioned: bta first travel opened its seventh location in Switzerland in Lugano, which means that business customers in Ticino can now also benefit locally from personalised advice for customised business trips. Finass Reisen made targeted efforts to increase its focus on high-quality services with the aim of offering its customers an even better travel experience.

Commitment to sustainability: focus on global responsibility
Hotelplan Group also continued to systematically drive forward its comprehensive sustainability strategy in the financial year 2023/2024. Through its collaboration with Swiss International Air Lines, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, and the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) manufacturer Neste, Hotelplan Group expanded its use of more-sustainable aviation fuel. Customers in all business units can now choose to use SAF as an alternative to traditional climate protection contributions when booking flights via various booking channels. A partnership with the start-up Klimate also serves to promote innovative CO₂ capture and removal solutions in order to take responsibility for unavoidable emissions and promote forward-looking innovations. Hotelplan Group's new animal welfare policy is safeguarding species-appropriate standards; offers that do not meet the standards have been removed from the company's own portfolio.

Cautious optimism for the financial year 2024/2025
The financial year 2024/2025 has got off to a successful start, with incoming bookings above the level of 2023/2024. "We are recording a positive booking situation. In the beach holiday and city break segment, in adventure travel and also for holiday apartments, we are continuing to see a trend towards trips to the north this year – even though the traditional Mediterranean destinations are still the most popular," says Laura Meyer, CEO of Hotelplan Group.
