One Planet – climate protection and the preservation of biodiversity

Climate change and the loss of biodiversity are posing major challenges for tourism. Our industry depends on an intact natural environment, but also causes emissions and consumes resources. Hotelplan Group is therefore actively engaged in protecting the climate and preserving biodiversity. By signing the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, we have committed ourselves to halving our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050 at the very latest.

Biodiversity - For the protection and regeneration of ecosystems

In addition to the climate crisis, the loss of biodiversity demands immediate action. Hotelplan Group works to preserve biodiversity through various projects. We have introduced a Group-wide Animal Welfare Policy. Our business units also work together with regional project partners.

Selected initiatives of the business units

In conjunction with its two specialist brands travelhouse and tourisme pour tous, Hotelplan Suisse has become the first Swiss tour operator to create transparency and show the CO₂e footprint of individual travel suggestions on its website. The calculations are made with the help of Carmacal and myclimate. The stated values will be revised over time and adapted to industry standards in cooperation with KlimaLink, a platform for calculating travel emissions.

Interhome is actively committed to protecting bees. Financed by Interhome and with the support of its partner BEESark, 100,000 m² of flowering meadows are being planted in Austria to capture CO₂ and release oxygen. These meadows provide a home for regional plants that are adapted to local conditions and provide essential habitats for bees and other species. In collaboration with BEESark, Interhome has also installed a total of 1,065 nesting boxes in Tyrol – exactly as many as the number of holiday homes it rents out in the region. These boxes are maintained and cleaned regularly to provide a wide variety of birds with a safe home.

Hotelplan UK has been supporting Rewilding Britain since early 2023. The organisation aims to restore at least 30% of the UK’s land and maritime areas by 2030. In addition to the financial support we provide, our employees also take action themselves, by spending their volunteering days to support local rewilding projects for example.
